Our Approach
The Global Retina Project is a passionate and dedicated nonprofit organization committed to transforming lives and improving global eye health. Our mission is to bring hope and vision to underserved communities around the world by providing comprehensive point-of-care retinal disease screening, treatment, and management.
“Restoring someone’s sight is the single most cost-effective health intervention to reduce poverty.”
— World Health Organization (2010)
The project.
With over one billion individuals facing preventable vision impairments, 826 million grapple specifically with retinal issues. Unfortunately, 90% of these individuals, primarily in impoverished communities, lack access to essential retinal care. The Global Retina Project is committed to breaking down these barriers, striving for a world where every person, regardless of their socioeconomic status, receives quality retina care. We believe that clear vision is a fundamental human right, so our mission is to transform this conviction into a tangible reality, ensuring equitable access to resources for managing and treating retinal conditions. As we forge ahead, collaboration with corporations amplifies our efforts and bring about positive change on a global scale.
Impact of retina.
89% of those affected by uncorrected retinal diseases and disorders live in low- and middle-income countries. The absence of accessible retinal health services, limited distribution of essential treatments, and financial barriers create ongoing hardships that could be immediately alleviated through timely intervention and medical advancements. It is imperative that corporations recognize the urgency of addressing these disparities, as their collaboration with initiatives like the Global Retina Project not only contributes to tangible solutions but also signifies a commitment to global health equity, positioning them as catalysts for transformative change in the fight against preventable vision impairments.
A solution is in sight.
According to the World Health Organization's (WHO) World Report on Vision, it is estimated that no less than 2.2 billion individuals globally are affected by some form of vision impairment. Of these, at least 1 billion individuals experience preventable or untreated vision issues. We invite you to be part of the solution to one of the most pressing global health issues of our time. Your support will bring immediate, life-altering change to individuals living in poverty. Now is the time to make their vision a reality. Through collective efforts, we can pave the way for a future where eye health disparities are minimized, ensuring that individuals worldwide have the opportunity to lead fulfilling lives with clear vision and unimpeded access to essential eye care services.
